Hi there! I’m a professional drummer and passionate music educator based in Mt Gravatt East, Brisbane, currently offering private drum lessons for students aged 8 and up. Whether you’re a total beginner, a school student aiming to refine your skills, or an adult returning to an old passion, I’d love to help you grow on your musical journey.
I first picked up a pair of sticks at the age of 7, and I’ve been hooked ever since. That early spark led me to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance, and since graduating, I’ve built a career that combines both education and professional performance—two passions that feed into and enrich each other.
With over 10 years of teaching experience in both private and institutional settings, I pride myself on creating engaging, tailored lessons for every student. I’ve taught at top music schools such as the Independent Music Academy, Australian Academy of Music, Downtown Creative Studios, and B Sharpe Music, as well as in school settings like Groves Christian College, Brigidine College, and St Rita’s Catholic Primary.
I work with students ranging from young beginners to adult learners, offering a supportive environment where individual goals, learning styles, and musical tastes are always respected. Whether your goal is to play in a band, pass an exam, join a school ensemble, improve technique, or simply have fun, I’ll help you get there with personalised guidance and a clear roadmap.
I also have extensive experience teaching Drumline ensembles, group classes, and working in classroom settings—skills that come in handy when helping students prepare for school performances, AMEB or Trinity exams, or collaborative projects.
Performance Career
As a performer, I’ve toured and recorded extensively with several bands across Australia. I’m a founding member of two active original projects:
- Tommy Sexton and the Suggestions, a funk/soul band with an energetic live presence and groove-driven original material.
- Mosspaw, an alternative rock band that blends atmospheric textures with powerful rhythms and dynamic songwriting.
With both bands, I’ve had the privilege of recording studio releases and touring interstate, performing at festivals, theatres, live venues, and corporate events across the country. I also gig regularly throughout South East Queensland, collaborating with a variety of artists in genres including Jazz, Rock, Funk, RnB, Blues, Metal, and more.
I’ve had the honour of working with some of Australia’s most respected musicians, including Sahara Beck, Ben Hauptmann, Jonathan Zwartz, Graeme Norris, Nick Hempton, Dale Barlow, James Sandon, and Lachlan Mitchell. These experiences have shaped my approach to music and continue to inspire both my playing and teaching.
